Telling Tales: Visions - Revealed

Residents of Oldbury have been voting online and at a number of public events for the images they think best represent their town in a project called Telling Tales: Visions led by community arts organisation Multistory. The chosen 25 images were unveiled at the Oldbury Good Citizen Awards on 29 January 2008.
The website containing all the images taken by local photographer Megan Taylor received over 9000 hits between 10 December 07 and 6 January 08 with residents visiting the site to vote for the photographs of people, places and activities that celebrate Oldbury.
Talking about the project, Megan Taylor said: “I really enjoyed my time in Oldbury. As clichéd as it sounds, it was the people that made it for me. They were warm and went out of their way to be helpful; something that takes a bit of getting used to for a London dweller! At one point I was really lost trying to find Tittford Pool and when I asked someone for directions, he said, follow me I’ll drive you round. I couldn’t believe it! I loved being in Oldbury and would work there again at the drop of a hat.”
The chosen 25 images were unveiled by Megan, and the team at Multistory, at the Oldbury Good Citizens Award on 29 January 2008 at Rhodia Social Club in Langley. The awards ceremony, hosted by BBC Midlands Today presenter Michael Collie, recognised the people who make Oldbury a great place to live and work.
Chair of Oldbury Town Committee Cllr Malcolm Bridges said of Oldbury Good Citizens Award: “I am really pleased by the response we have had to the competition, particularly as it is the first year we have run such an awards scheme in Oldbury.
“I am sure the awards evening will be a fantastic night and hope the winners and the nominees will be pleased to have had their contribution to the town recognised.”
Megan Taylor and the team at Multistory identified the featured people and locations for the images which celebrate Oldbury through speaking to residents and working with a number of groups and individuals including: Barnford Park Allotment Holders; the IT class at Bleakhouse Library, Bristnall; Langley Brass Brand; Oldbury Rep Theatre Company; the girls under 16s Football Club at Birchley Park; and musicians at Musoplex Recording Studio in Langley.
