What I do at Multistory
As a Project Manager, my role is to help devise, plan, develop, implement and evaluate a wide range of projects with artists and partners. I try to make sure things happen when they should; people do what they say they're going to do; and to support artists and partners during projects to make sure objectives are reached. I feel it is crucial to help people recognise the importance of being creative and to advocate the impact that the arts can have on people's lives. I work hard to push participatory art practice forward to provide opportunities for people to share and reveal their stories, talents and aspirations in innovative and exciting ways.
What I've done before
Prior to working for Multistory, and after leaving university in 2003, I worked in Leeds for Ernst & Young and at a conveyancing company. Not that exciting I know, but it taught me a lot about budgeting and business and, more importantly, knowing what I didn't want to do in life. I studied music at Leeds University and I have been an on-off musician for 16 years, playing in a number of bands with limited success. I was always seeking an opportunity to work and think creatively and to surround myself with inspirational creative types who do amazing things in their lives. So thankfully I was given that opportunity through Multistory.
What makes me happy
Family and friends; a brew first thing in the morning; homemade food; books, technology and Macs; surprises; snooze buttons; making other people smile; people who think of things that have never been done before; synthesizers and strange noises; being creative; writing and listening to music; getting on and off planes; sunshine; and other little things in life.
My favourite film
Not sure what my number one film of all time would be but these would make it into my top ten: Dead Man's Shoes, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mean Streets, Teen Wolf, Run Lola Run, See No Evil Hear No Evil, Buffalo 66, City of God.
My favourite music
Music has always been a massive part of my life since buying 'Smash Hits' and discovering New Kids on the Block at the age of seven. My taste in music has thankfully progressed from then and there have been a number of bands and artists from Radiohead to Kraftwerk who have been favourite bands in my life at one point or another. I guess if I had to pick out one band though it would have to be Sigur Ros. I discovered this band in 2000 and their music is so beautiful and intense that it takes all your troubles away and makes you feel better about the world around you.
My favourite place to visit
I went to Reykjavik in Iceland for a surprise 30th present in 2010, and this was such an amazing and beautiful place, unlike anywhere I’ve ever been before. Fantastic landscapes, great people and cool bars and restaurants.
