No Where to Play

By Place Prospectors - 15th December, 2011

We visited the park again today to consider further how to structure the first event. We talked about how we could focus activity to form a starting point. We know that the park has a low profile because it is so hidden from view from the main street.  The strength of the boundary accentuates the lack of definition within the space and the lack of visual or physical prompts.  For example the view points are few- there is no where to rest your eye or be drawn into activity. No where to play, no where to sit, no where to get lost.  We enter the park through each of the three entrances and decide that these need to be the focus of the first weeks activity.  Could we dress these and make more of the points of entry?  In turn this would highlight the other entrances/exits and the form of the park beyond the prominence of its boundaries.  We decide that the shelter for working should be placed on the old pavilion structure, as this is the only space that provides a sense of overview.  The invitation to 'enter the park' is prepared and second and third session tentatively framed as 'being in the park' and 'presenting the park'.
