Telling Tales

Telling Tales - A West Bromwich Portraiture Project

Telling Tales is an inter-generational portraiture project that seeks to explore local issues surrounding age difference and stereotyping by highlighting interests which cut across generation gaps.

Multistory has worked with groups of younger and older people from the Yew Tree and Charlemont areas of West Bromwich to develop a series of portraits that investigate the notion of these stereotypes from both younger and older people’s perspectives.

Through a series of creative workshops, participants identified common interests and worked alongside artists from Multistory to create portraits depicting and celebrating their shared passions.

The portraits and audio recordings created by the participants are displayed in an ‘urban art trail’ - a series of posters exhibited on bus shelters and at listening posts placed in the four community spaces shown on the map below, throughout September and October 2007.
